MACRO PROJECT PHASE ALPHA – This is the moment when you begin to instantiate the ideas and concepts you have been developing over the course of the semester. It is now time to begin building (if you haven’t already begun) your project in Unity. At this point you can use primitive 3D objects and scratch track audio. It is more important to focus on the functionality you are planning to implement and to test your project in its target platform. You should be reading this in , and you have two weeks to create a simple build that will be part of your Midterm Presentation.

Using , (or whatever online presentation software you prefer) organize your Midterm Presentation in the following order:

  • Slide 1: A title slide with the name of your VR Macro Project and a one sentence description of the experience. Don’t forget to include your own name on this slide, as well as the course number and title and date. [approx. 30sec]

  • Slide 2: A (so describe a specific situation in which your VR Project would be used and who will be using it) [approx. 1min 30sec]

  • Slide 3: Your mood board [approx. 30sec]

  • Slide 4: (optional) Physical space layout documentation of your VR environment. [approx. 30sec]

  • Slide 5: A flow diagram (using liked you used in your project) [approx. 1min]

  • Slide 6: Your schedule with indications of where you are in your production pipeline [approx. 30sec]

  • Slide 7: (*optional) An embedded video recording of your playing the project in its target platform, with a 15 sec vertical slice (a fully functioning and polished segment of the experience used as proof-of-concept). [approx. 2min 30sec]

This portion of the presentation (based on our class size) should be limited to 7 minutes (see time approximations next to each slide). There will be 3-5 minutes for them to submit feedback to you on your project.

  • Slide 8: Your last slide should provide a link to your Audience Survey in Google forms. [keep on screen for approx. 3-5 min]

  • Slide 9: (optional) A thank you [at the end of your entire presentation]

NOTES:

  1. How to record in Unity:

    1. Window > Package Manager > Advanced > Show Preview Packages (Hit Yes) > Unity Recorder (Install)

    2. Now under Window > General > Recorder > Recorder Window

    3. Now you can record the playtest as a movie. Hit START recording and it will automatically hit the PLAY button in your Unity project and feed into the HMD (head mounted display).

  2. Creating a Survey in Google Forms. Why?

    1. An online survey is a great way to get honest answers from an audience about your product/experience.

    2. It makes it easier for you to remember the important points.

    3. It helps you keep a record of responses.

    4. You remember things in the audience’s word (avoiding your own potential bias in jotting their words down and paraphrasing…recording the part you want to hear.

  3. What to ask in your Survey?

    1. Ask relevant questions, related to your goals in creating this VR experience.

    2. Mix up your questions. Include rating, multiple choice, and long answer.

    3. End with open-ended questions (opens you up to new possibilities or perspectives on approaching your project).
