VISITING EXPERT 9:30am - 12:20pm - New Media Artist and NYU Professor - Presentation of her work, then student sharing of Dream Project Ideas

Bio: Snow Yunxue Fu is a Chinese-born and New York-based new media artist, curator, and Assistant Arts Professor at the Department of the Photography and Imaging, Institute of Emerging Technology at Tisch School of the Arts at New York University (NYU). She has formerly taught at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC), University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC), Ox-bow School of Art and Artists Residency, L-Art University from Shanghai, and etc. Through the Study Abroad program at SAIC, she co-led two study trips, one touring Italy and the Venice Biennale, and the other an exploration of contemporary and historic art throughout mainland China and Hong Kong. She holds an MFA in Studio Art and BFA in Painting from the Film, Video, New Media, and Animation (FVNMA) department at SAIC, a BFA in Painting from Southeast Missouri State University, and a BA in Fine Arts from Sichuan Normal University in China.

Using topographical computer-rendered images and installations, Fuโ€™s practice merges historical painterly, philosophical, and post-photographic explorations into the universal aesthetic and definitive nature of the sublime. With a background in painting, she sees her transition into new media as a natural extension of her conceptual research in which she draws parallels between the physical, metaphysical, and multi-dimensionality. Her works have been shown nationally and internationally, including New York Gallery of Chinese Art, New York; Venice Architecture Biennale, Venice, Italy; Pioneer Works, New York; Sediton, Hong Kong; Arebyte Gallery, London, UK; Shenzhen Independent Animation Biennale, Shenzhen, China; Current Museum of Art, New York; TRANSFER Gallery, New York; NADA Art Fair, New York; the Pingyao International Photography Festival, Pingyao, China; Thoma Art House, Sante Fe; Currents Santa Fe New Media Art Festival, Santa Fe, New Mexico; The Wrong Biennale, the Internet; Expo Chicago, Chicago; Hong Kong Art Center, Hong Kong; Chicago Filmmakers, Chicago; Venice Biennale Satellite Shows, Venice, Italy; MOMA PopRally Screening, New York; LOOP Festival, Barcelona, Spain, and etc. She has participated in residencies such as the Hatch Residency through the Chicago Artist Coalition and Estudio Nรณmadaโ€™s Mas els Igols Residency in Barcelona, Spain. She has presented on her work and research at institutions, symposiums, and international conferences including International Symposium on Electronic Art (ISEA), SIGGRAPH Anaheim, SIGGRAPH Asia, the Celebrating Women in New Media Symposium at SAIC, the University of Chicago, The Fourth Chinese-American Art Faculty Symposium, and juried in the 29th Onion City Experimental Film and Video Festival in Chicago. Her work has been collected by institutions such as the Currents Museum in New York, and she remains the youngest artist collected by the National Art Museum of China.

Her interviews and reviews have been covered in the New York Times, the Boston Globe, Arebyte on Screen, Sedition, Guangzhou Todayโ€™s Focus in China, and the St. Louis Magazine Art Review. Her gallery representation includes TRANSFER Gallery New York, Carlos Reid Gallery, and The OUTPUT in Shanghai. Fu received the Best Artwork Award in the Mykonos Multi-Media Festival in Greece and the Finalists Award in the Media Art Category of the 18th Incubator for Film and Visual Media in Asia (ifva) in Hong Kong.
