Presentation Guidelines:
Using , (or whatever online presentation software you prefer) organize your (late) Midterm Presentation in the following order:
Slide 1: A title slide with the name of Your Dream Project and a one sentence description of the experience (an elevator pitch). Don’t forget to include your own name on this slide, as well as the course number and title and date. [approx. 30sec]
Slide 2: A and/or describe a specific situation in which your project would be used/experienced and who will be using/experiencing it [approx. 1min 30sec]
Slide 3: A mood board or any other early visualization or sketches for your project [approx. 1min]
Slide 4: (optional) Physical space layout documentation of your environment (*if installation was part of the original plan. Even if you cannot realize the project as a physical installation now, you can present virtual models in this presentation and your final showcase). [approx. 30sec]
Slide 5: A flow diagram of the experience [approx. 1min]
Slide 6: Your schedule with indications of where you are in your production pipeline and adjustments you have had to make due to lack of resources/hardware, etc [approx. 1min]
Slide 7: (optional) An embedded video recording of your playing the project in its authoring environment. [approx. 2min 30sec]
Slide 8: Your last slide should provide a link to your Audience Survey in Google forms. [keep on screen for approx. 2-3 min] *See notes below on creating a Google survey.
Slide 9: (optional) A thank you [at the end of your entire presentation]
This portion of the presentation (based on our class size breakout rooms) should be limited to 10 minutes (see time approximations next to each slide).
NOTES:
How to record in Unity:
Window > Package Manager > Advanced > Show Preview Packages (Hit Yes) > Unity Recorder (Install)
Now under Window > General > Recorder > Recorder Window
Now you can record the playtest as a movie. Hit START recording and it will automatically hit the PLAY button in your Unity project and it will automatically record a movie file.
Creating a Survey in Google Forms. Why?
An online survey is a great way to get honest answers from an audience about your story, product or experience.
It makes it easier for you to remember the important points.
It helps you keep a record of responses.
You remember things in the audience’s word (avoiding your own potential bias in jotting their words down and paraphrasing…recording the part you want to hear).
What to ask in your Survey?
Ask relevant questions, related to your goals in creating this MR experience.
Mix up your questions. Include rating, multiple choice, and long answer.
End with open-ended questions (opens you up to new possibilities or perspectives on approaching your project).
After your presentations and students filling out surveys about your work, there will be a 7 minute conversational critique session for each student.
Rules of the critique:
Do your best.
Be present and engaged.
Give feedback to your classmates.
Do not make assumptions. Ask questions.
Do NOT take feedback personally.
Guidelines for giving feedback during the critique:
What is working about the project?
What is confusing or needs more clarification about the project?
What are ways that the project can be improved?
What additional references, resources, projects, and/or links would be useful for this project?
Try to avoid "interesting" or "cool" descriptors without a supporting clause as to WHY it is interesting or cool.
(1) Document your critique feedback ASAP preferably by the following day at the latest if at all possible
This critique feedback post should include images of the current status of your project, a description of your project progress as it currently stands, and a discussion of the feedback you received from the critique.
How will this feedback improve your project and progress?
Evaluate whether your presentation elicited the feedback you require to transform or move forward with your project. If not, reflect upon why not.
(2) Aggregate your google survey feedback
How will this feedback improve your project and progress?
(3) Compare and contrast the feedback from in class critique and survey form.
(4) ALSO Document at least two comments of the feedback you gave to two (or more) other classmates.
(6) Share the google drive link to your midterm class presentation on the class slack, in the Midterm Channel (*channel will be added by instructor).
(7) Students from breakout room 1 should review the feedback received in breakout room 2. Students from breakout room 2 should review the feedback received in breakout room 1 and respond in a separate document posted to class google drive.
