π€Ί Misdirection
from THE BASICS OF COMEDY WRITING FOR STAND-UP - Valerie Nies- Workshop
NYU students present March 8, UT students present after Spring Break on March 22 Based on the workshop conducted by Valerie Nies in class March 1, for your midterm presentations produce a work that incorporates misdirection as a form of humor in your work.
In using misdirection (surprise) in your work, please be mindful of the components of misdirection and comedy as a whole that Valerie discussed, including:
Rules of 3 (a list of 3 things, and the last breaks the pattern)
Brevity - edit for concise and precise language. Avoid filler words like really, just and so.
Comedy can include analogy & heightening, irony, unpopular opinion, alliteration, specific details, juxtaposition and either maximizing something small in your life or minimizing something big in your life.
This work can be produced using a 2D or 3D avatar, using yourself or friend(s) in a video, as a live performance in class reading from a script, as a comic strip, as a website, as an animation, or in some form not listed here (if you have questions about the form, consult with your instructor)
This project can be built for/shared on (but is not required) TikTok, YouTube, Instagram, Twitter, Twitch, or any other social media platform you prefer.
This project can be built with, but is not limited to, Unity, Unreal, Mozilla Hubs, Premier, After Effects, Photoshop, Maya, Blender, Adobe Audition, paper and pen.
This can be a group or independent project.
Not required, however this project can contain aspects of or be an adaptation of previous assignments including Cry Until You Laugh, Absurdity, and iComedy.
Each student will have 7 minutes to present. If you would like to receive live class feedback on your project, time your presentation for 3-4 minutes to allow time for Q&A and critique. So that you can receive MORE feedback, the instructors will have Google Survey forms for each student project for NYU/UT classmates to fill out.
THIS IS DUE 03/08 WK 08 UT/ WK 07 NYU
