Project Versions - Alpha, Beta, and Gold refer to a project’s life cycle.
Alpha is a very early version of an application that may not contain all the features that are planned for the final version. Typically, a software application goes through two stages of testing before it is considered finished. The first stage, called Alpha Testing, is often performed only by users within the organization (the Senior Project class ccohort). The second stage is called Beta Testing.
An applications’ Beta is an officially released version which includes most of its functionality. The beta version is intended for external testing in order to identify configurations that cause problems, as well as collect requirements and suggestions from users (classmates and guest visitors).
Gold Version is when all the bugs have been fixed and quality is assured. It is ready to go public.
The specific parameters and expectations of design, development, and project versions for each student will be individually determined in consultation with the professor. This is not a required capstone or thesis class, some projects may meet the requirements in alpha or beta stages.
